For those seeking beauty and a touch of history and culture, there is plenty on offer, including Stratford Upon Avon, Oxford, Snarestone, or a visit to the Waterways Museum at Stoke Bruerne, depending on the number of locks you wish to negotiate.

A short day trip, leisurely cruise to Leamington Spa or the adventures of the Warwickshire ring and beyond. Within just a few minutes there are some beautiful rural moorings, great for a BBQ, travel a little further and you’ll find Willow Wren Training centre, where you can arrange boat handling tuition. The entrance to their basin also provides a convenient turning point. Just before the Stockton locks you’ll find the rest of many canal side pubs, The Boat Inn at Birdingbury Wharf.

After the Stockton locks you’ll again be rewarded with another great canal side pub The Blue Lias which takes its name from the local stone. There’s also a water point and moorings.

The village of Long Itchington is just a short walk away, where you can stock up on provisions or just enjoy the history of the village and the pond. There’s also some fantastic cycle routes to explore. Royal Leamington Spa is just a further 4 hours cruising, this historic spa town has lots to see and do and is renowned for the variety of shops and restaurants. A winding hole provides the opportunity to make your way back to Ventnor or time allowing you can continue your adventure.
