  • Rebecca Carpenter
    Assistant Marina Manager

In her own words Office Manager Rebecca describes working for Castle Marinas

"I'm proud to have worked at Buckden Marina for over 11 years now and still
love the beauty of the place like my first day.  I don't have a boat but
have learnt a lot about them with my job. I am a mum of two who both
keep me very busy when I'm not at work and who love to come see the marina where mummy works"

  • Kevin Ward
    Marina Manager

Kevin celebrated by travelling 248 miles to Buckden in his narrowboat, showing his passion for the inland waterways life.

Kevin's skills and experience are particularly relevant to the Managers role. His work as a Handover person for a large narrowboat operator in the Midlands stirred his interest in boating and led to his own purchase of a narrowboat, then he worked for 3M Plc refurbishing commercial properties. His Customer skills will enable us to add value to our moorers at Buckden, and we will also be investing in the infrastructure on site, using his wide reaching practical skills.

To achieve this we draw all moorers attention to the following boat and marina safety points.

There are several potential hazards within a marina environment. Pontoons are  slippery when wet and icy. Please take care and wear suitable footwear. Please also take extra care at night and in strong winds.

Please leave no clutter, untidy cables or cycles on pontoons, these can cause a trip hazard and can impede access.

Children must be supervised at all times and must not ride in the trolleys. Lifejackets are advisable.

In the event of an emergency please contact the marina office immediately. You may want to make a note of the out of hours contact number. Harbourmasters are contactable 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Life rings and extinguishers are located around the Marina.

There is a first aid station in the Marina Office

Smoking is strictly prohibited near to the Pump Out, Diesel, Bottled Gas and Fuel areas

Our staff are there to help you. If you doubt your ability to manoeuvre your boat in the prevailing conditions do alert the Harbourmasters who will be happy to assist.

Any damage to pontoons, facilities or boats should be reported to the Harbourmasters immediately.

Please also do not allow oil contaminated bilge effluent to be discharged into the marina and be aware that hot central heating or engine exhausts can scorch wooden pontoons.

The Great Ouse

Buckden Marina is an inland marina situated next to the River Great Ouse.

The River Great Ouse weaves through the flat landscape of East Anglia for 75 miles and with its tributaries, the River Cam, Lark, Little Ouse and Wissey makes up to 140 miles of navigable waterway for you to explore flowing through some of the most unspoilt water environments in Britain.

There are many sites of interest along the river with several towns and villages for you to visit with attractive mooring points.

The Environment Agency is the navigation authority for this region and you will need to register your craft with them and obtain a lock key to operate the un-manned locks.  You will also need a windlass available from chandleries on the system.
